Weekly and what I cooked this week

Hello again and welcome to another weekly. And intense week comes to an end and with it I give you some links you might find interesting. Also I have a new section that I call “What I’ve cooked this week” which is pretty self-explanatory I guess. I collect my cooking highlights of the week and you are free to try them yourself. Also I started to use Instagram stories with which I invite you in my kitchen – I am doing these in German right now. If I hear a strong demand to do them in English, just let me know on Twitter and I might actually do that. We’ll see how that turns out.

Alright, let’s start with some fine Internet finds.

Great spot with a very weird animal (dolph-a-sloth) that perfectly illustrates me on the couch while watching Netflix. Because it looks so weird you have to watch it multiple times. It’s the sequel to the gunny giraffamingo ad.

Remember the bad reviews about the Emoji movie? Perfect example of asking the wrong “users” about it. See this reply of a ten-year-old in the New York Times.

I like unusual design patterns and unique photography as well as food and cooking. If you’re into that too, have a look at the Brutal Magazine, a magazine about food and fashion. it also comes with nice recipes.

I started watching Game of Thrones this week – no, not the seventh season, I started it. Never watched it before. A client of us had to convince me to watch it. And if you’re in deep fan mode, Ikea Norway published instructions for how to make a Game of Thrones cape. Will look into that for sure.

Instagram is a great place for artists. I stumbled upon Seb, an illustrator based in Rotterdam. He has a really unique drawing style and you should follow him, too.

If you can’t stand a President Trump any longer, do yourself a favour and install the Trump filter extension and make your web great again.

What I cooked this week

First and foremost I made a simple tomato sauce. As simple as it is, it’s always astonishing to hear what people do to their pasta when it comes to sauce. Cooking a good tomato sauce is simple as it only needs one very simple ingredient – time.

Tomato Sauce ingredients

So, here you have recipe for tomato sauce.

You’ll need:

  • tomatoes (best ones are Mutti tomatoes, comes in a can)
  • lug of olive oil
  • garlic (as much as you want, I always like a little more than usual)
  • salt
  • pepper
  • Penne or Spaghetti, use durum wheat and if you don’t want to make the pasta yourself use De Cecco, Rummo or Barilla
  1. First heat the olive oil in a saucepan. Finely chop the garlic and glaze it over in the hot oil. Don’t let it brown.
  2. Add the tomatoes and stir. Let it cook on high heat, then put to low heat and let it simmer for roughly four hours. Yes, you heard me, four. After three hours amino acids and ethereal oils start to build psychoactive substances. That is what makes the taste of a great tomato sauce and that is what needs time!
  3. Taste it, add salt and pepper to your liking, cook the pasta and combine the pasta with the sauce. Serve with Parmesan cheese or Grand Padano. Enjoy!

If you want, here is the video of my Instagram story.

That’s it for this week. Worth to mention, I defintely cooked more but need more time to write down the recipes. Also I will put them on a separate page, so they are easier to find. Stay tuned and have a good week!
